Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned on Monday that the confrontation between Russia and the Western powers is no longer «hybrid», but has already become an «almost real» conflict that anti-Moscow countries have been «preparing for a long time».
«It is no longer a hybrid war, but an almost real one, which the West has been preparing for a long time against Russia, trying to destroy everything Russian, from the language to the culture, which has been present in Ukraine for centuries, and forbidding people to speak their native language,» Lavrov denounced.
Speaking from South Africa on the sidelines of a meeting with his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor, the Russian Foreign Minister accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his predecessor Petro Poroshenko of having failed to keep the promise on the basis of which they became heads of state.
«Both former President Poroshenko and current President Zelensky, who were elected under the slogan of establishing peace, immediately after being elected became war presidents and Russophobic presidents,» Lavrov said, Russian news agency TASS reports.
In denouncing the anti-Russian course adopted by Kiev and its allies, Moscow pointed out that the Ukrainian authorities have even adopted laws banning the Russian language in the educational system, in the media, and even, he said, in everyday life.
«All cultural contacts related to the Russian language are banned. And all this is supported by the West. Just as the West supports regular marches of neo-Nazis with swastikas, with symbols of divisions that were banned by the Nuremberg Tribunal and are recognized as criminal. The West supports all this,» Lavrov concluded.
