The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, announced on Monday from Buenos Aires that Brazil will reestablish diplomatic relations with Venezuela.
«We are going to reestablish civilized relations between two autonomous, free and independent states», said Lula from the Argentine capital, which hosts from Tuesday the summit of countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
Lula made the announcement during a joint press conference with Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, in response to a question from the press to which Lula replied that he wants embassies in both nations.
The Brazilian leader affirmed that the political conflict in Venezuela must be resolved through dialogue and not through blockades or threats of occupation.
Lula has also mentioned that many are now asking for «understanding» to the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, but forget that they did «abominable things», such as recognizing the oppositionist Juan Guaidó as president of the country.
