UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said that Germany has made «the right decision» in authorizing the shipment of Leopard tanks to Ukraine, noting that it is the way forward for «NATO allies and friends» of the Ukrainian authorities and people.

«Together, we are accelerating our efforts to ensure that Ukraine wins this war and secures a lasting peace,» said Sunak, who sees the tanks as a way to bolster the defensive capabilities of Ukrainian forces against Russian attacks.

The British government already confirmed last week that it would send more heavy weaponry to Ukraine and included 14 Challenger 2s in the list. The German government announced Wednesday that it will offer the same number of Leopard 2s.
