The candidate for the presidential elections in the Czech Republic and former chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Petr Pavel, on Thursday denied reports of his alleged death, a matter that is already being investigated by the authorities.
«Yes, I am alive. I never thought I would be forced to write it. Someone is disseminating on behalf of my press secretary a copy of an alleged report about my death. The campaign against me has reached a new background, we will reject this through the ballot box,» he has asserted in a message spread through his Twitter account.
The information in question indicated that Pavel had died «suddenly» on Thursday morning. The Czech police, for its part, has confirmed that they are investigating the incident just one day before the start of the second round of the presidential election, in which he is up against former Prime Minister Andrej Babis.
«It is abominable, I am horrified that someone would do this. The Police must check this thoroughly, as well as a letter threatening me with death,» Pavel pointed out. Babis, for his part, has denounced having also suffered death threats during the campaign.
