German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has said that the Leopard tanks promised to Ukraine will arrive at their destination in late March or early April, a day after Olaf Scholz’s government gave the final go-ahead for the delivery of 14 battle tanks.
Pistorius, who took over a week ago from the resigned Christine Lambrecht, used his first visit to military personnel at the Altengrabow military training area in the east of the country to confirm a first schedule.
Berlin announced its aid on the same day as Washington and, despite criticism for its alleged hesitation in this matter, the German government has defended that it never said no to the repeated requests coming from Kiev, even from the mouth of President Volodimir Zelenski.
«We have not hesitated, we have negotiated,» Pistorius has argued, alluding to open talks with other NATO partners. «Everyone should be satisfied with the decision, because we are doing what is necessary,» he stressed.
