Nicaragua’s Directorate General of Customs Services (DGA) has imposed restrictions on the entry of photographic and video cameras for tourists, for which an «endorsement» from the National Cinematheque must be obtained.
This permit must be presented to the customs authorities, who are in charge of registering «the entry of this type of merchandise under the temporary import regime with re-export in the same state of the customs system».
Only one photographic apparatus and one long-range lens may be introduced. In case of being more, taxes must be paid. Also, tourists are not allowed to bring into the country night vision binoculars because they are «for the exclusive use of the Nicaraguan Army and the National Police».
The authorities reserve the right to retain the merchandise, in the case of binoculars, which would be delivered once the tourist leaves the country and upon delivery of a «retention form», according to the newspaper ‘La Prensa’.
