Poland’s Deputy Defense Minister, Wojciech Skurkiewicz, has estimated that fourteen Leopard 2 tanks will be ready for shipment «within a few weeks», following Germany’s approval, which puts an end to weeks of speculation about the delivery of this type of armored vehicles so coveted by Ukraine.
Skurkiewicz has stated that the delivery of the fleet will take place «as soon» as the Ukrainians complete the necessary training to handle them, which for him could last for «a few weeks», he told Polish radio station Radio Plus.
«We are doing everything possible to prevent Russian aggression against Ukraine,» said Skurkiewicz, who, citing Polish intelligence reports, said that Moscow is planning a new offensive against Ukrainian territory to be carried out from Belarus.
In this sense, Skurkiewicz emphasized Poland’s role in this whole process to put pressure on Germany to give its endorsement so that the European partners who have this type of tanks could give them to Ukraine and spoke of the creation of a sort of coalition to accelerate the transfer of Leopards 2 to the battle front.
«All measures are being taken so that Ukraine can win,» stressed Skurkiewicz, who put the number of German Leopard 2s waiting in the military hangars of European countries at around 2,000.
