The United States reported Thursday that Bilal al Sudani, a senior Islamic State official, as well as ten other members of the terrorist group, were killed Wednesday during a counterterrorism operation in a mountainous area of northern Somalia.
«From a mountainous cave complex in northern Somalia, Bilal al Sudani is believed to have been supporting the Islamic State’s expansion and activities in Africa and beyond,» a senior Biden Administration official said, CNN reported.
The operation, ordered by President Joe Biden earlier this week, did not result in any U.S. deaths or injuries, the official said, adding that al Sudani was funding a network of Islamic State affiliates.
