U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday made official the appointment of Jeff Zients as the new chief of staff, who led the White House response to the pandemic and helped his replacement, Ron Klain, with preparations for staff turnover ahead of the midterm elections.
Biden thanked Klain for his «brilliance» during this time and acknowledged the various «battles» they have fought together for more than three decades. In that sense, he pointed out the importance of having a successor who was up to the task and Zients has been the chosen one.
«I have seen Jeff Zients deal with some of the most difficult issues of the Administration,» said Biden, who recalled the work of his new chief of staff in several areas of Barack Obama’s administration.
«When I ran for office, I promised to put the government at the service of the American people. That is what Jeff is doing (…) I am confident that Jeff will continue Ron’s example of smart and steady leadership, as we continue to work hard every day for the people we have been sent to serve,» said Biden.
