The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Friday summoned Hungarian Ambassador Istvan Ijdjarto over «despicable» comparisons issued by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who claimed that the country is turning into Afghanistan and is a «no man’s land».
Ukrainian Foreign Spokesman Oleg Nikolenko echoed these statements in which Orbán assessed to the press that Russia is winning the war, although he does not rule out a NATO intervention. «Today it sounds crazy, but (…) it cannot be ruled out. The West is at war with Russia,» he said.
Nikolenko has called these words, in connection with references to Afghanistan, «despicable» and «unacceptable» and has accused Hungary of wanting to «deliberately ruin relations» and «undermine the possibility of further dialogue» between Kiev and Budapest.
Nikolenko, therefore, made it known that the Foreign Ministry has summoned Ambassador Ijdjarto for a «frank conversation», while reserving the right to «take further measures in response».
