A serving UK Army soldier has been charged with terrorism offenses after he left an envelope that looked like a letter bomb with a person in the town of Stafford, in the central Staffordshire county of Staffordshire.
Daniel Abed Khalif, 21, a serving member of the British Armed Forces, has been charged with two terrorism offenses, the UK Metropolitan Police said in a statement. On January 2, he placed an envelope with the intention of inducing another person to believe that the letter might explode or ignite and thereby cause personal injury or damage to property, in contravention of the UK Criminal Law Act.
Also, on August 2, 2021, also in Stafford, obtained or attempted to obtain information about a person likely to be useful to another individual planning to commit an act of terrorism, all in breach of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Abed Khalif is under arrest and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this Saturday, the UK Metropolitan Police missive said.
