The French health authorities have announced that as of February 1 it will no longer be necessary for people who have tested positive for coronavirus to keep five days of self-isolation, as was the case until now.
Nor will asymptomatic contact cases have to take a screening test on the second day of notification of their status, according to the new official regulations announced Saturday by the Directorate General of Health and reported by the newspaper ‘Le Figaro’.
The DGS justifies this relaxation because it has noted «a very low viral circulation», which has led to the adoption of a «strategy similar to that observed in other European countries».
However, the DGS recommends that people who test positive, as well as people who have been exposed to an infectious person and likely to develop the disease, «respect the safety distance and, above all, avoid contact with vulnerable people».
Regarding international transmission, it should be noted however that this Saturday the French Government has decided to extend until February 15 COVID-19 testing for travelers arriving from China due to the «evolving situation» in the Asian country, which has suffered an unprecedented surge of infections on national territory.
