The Russian government on Sunday accused the Ukrainian army of committing war crimes by shelling two hospitals in Lugansk and Kherson and singled out NATO both for the «indifference» exhibited to such attacks and for providing intelligence information for their execution, which makes the countries of the Atlantic Alliance, in Moscow’s opinion, direct participants in the conflict.
Russia denounced yesterday that at least 14 people were killed and 34 others were wounded in a Ukrainian air strike on a hospital in Novoaidar, in the Moscow-controlled area of eastern Lugansk region, using a U.S.-supplied HIMARS multiple launch rocket launch system.
For that reason, the Kremlin accused Washington of being directly involved in the Ukrainian war, just as it has pointed the finger Sunday at the Atlantic Alliance both for the «lack of reaction exhibited» and for providing «satellite intelligence information» that served as the basis for these attacks.
The Russian government then denounced a second attack, also on Saturday, in the town of Nova Kakhovja, in the Kherson region, on the right bank of the Dnieper river under Russian control, where 17 rockets hit, a third of them on the territory of a local hospital, with no casualties reported so far.
«The indifference of the United States and other NATO countries to this monstrous trampling of international humanitarian law by Kyiv once again confirms their direct involvement in the conflict and the crimes being committed,» the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
«All these acts of criminal lawlessness perpetrated by the armed groups in Kyiv, under the auspices of the West, will not go unpunished. They are carefully recorded. The organizers and perpetrators will suffer inevitable punishment,» the Ministry adds in the statement.
The Ukrainian authorities have not commented on these accusations, but have reported numerous attacks on Kherson city, the capital of the homonymous region, which are said to have left several dead and hit a hospital.
The Ukrainian administration of the city reported that the first shelling began at midnight last night and hit a utility company. Russia, the administration claims, has since launched six other attacks, one of which hit a hospital and injured a nurse.
The provisional death toll from these bombings, according to Ukraine, is one dead and two wounded, including the health worker.
