Chinese authorities announced Friday that travel between the mainland and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau will resume as normal from Monday, February 6, lifting limits imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, the agency at the forefront of the pandemic response, has issued a circular further specifying that travelers arriving from these special regions through the province of Guangzhou will not be required to make advance reservations, while package tours will resume.

Likewise, people crossing through these passes will not have to present a negative coronavirus test if they have not traveled abroad during the last seven days, while in case they have traveled abroad, they will have to present a test performed 48 hours before, at the most, as reported by the Chinese newspaper ‘China Daily’.

On the other hand, it has stressed that people who present high body temperature will be tested by the authorities, after which, if they test positive, they will be able to choose between isolation in their home or in a hospital. China, which reopened its international borders on January 8, maintained a quota system with Hong Kong and Macao.
