Crimea’s pro-Russian authorities reported Friday that they have indefinitely extended the terrorism alert in several parts of the peninsula and especially in the border areas and in the vicinity of the Kerch Strait bridge.
«To ensure security and anti-terrorist protection in the area, as well as its citizens, it is necessary to maintain the yellow alert for terrorism. The measure will come into force this Sunday at 20.00 and will remain in force until it is decided to suspend it,» the governor, Sergei Aksionov, has asserted, according to information from the TASS news agency.
Thus, he has indicated that the inspection of vehicles will be strengthened also in border areas of Crimea in order to prevent attacks. «The security forces have been instructed to strengthen control over the movement of vehicles on the borders of Crimea and to organize the inspection of vehicles for weapons and explosives,» he said.
«The situation in the region is fully under control by the local authorities. The power structures and security agencies ensure the protection of the area and its residents,» he pointed out.
The authorities first introduced this yellow alert in April, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since then, it has been extended.
