Russian authorities on Friday defended the continuation of the invasion of Ukraine and stressed that it is necessary since the Donbas region in the east of the country is «not yet fully protected».
The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, has indicated that the «new Russian regions are not completely protected from threats», so the invasion «must continue until this is guaranteed, according to information gathered by the TASS news agency.
«The Donbas is not fully protected. In fact, we must protect the people living there. Until this goal is completely fulfilled. This remains unfinished business,» he has asserted in response to a question on the possibility that Kiev’s words about the current situation on the ground pose a threat.
However, he reaffirmed that security on the Crimean peninsula «is being ensured». He referred to reports that the Ukrainian Interior Ministry is forming new assault brigades to participate in offensives in the Crimea and Donbas.
