with anti-aircraft defense equipment, anti-tank parts, or missiles for the HIMARS multiple rocket launcher.
This was announced Friday by Pentagon spokesman General Patrick Ryder, who said that the latest aid package was financed partly by presidential funds and partly, to a large extent, by the Ukrainian Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).
«Today’s announcement includes significant air defense assets to help Ukraine protect its people, as well as infantry fighting vehicles and other weapons that Ukraine uses very effectively,» Ryder noted.
«This will provide them with increased long-range firing capabilities, enabling them to conduct operations to defend their country and recapture their territories,» the spokesman told a press conference.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion almost a year ago now, the United States has been the main sender of military aid to Ukraine, already valued at this point at $29.3 billion (27 billion euros), reaching $32 billion (29.5 billion euros) since 2014, on the occasion of the Russian seizure of Crimea.
