A court on Saturday convicted 11 protesters arrested during the 2019 riots at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, one of the peaks of mass protests against the authorities and the Chinese government.
The Polytechnic University became a zone of open conflict between the Police and demonstrators protesting against the submission of the authorities to China’s policies against the territory’s judicial independence.
Among those convicted, pending sentencing, is a 28-year-old professor.
Like the rest of those convicted, he has been found guilty of possession of objects suspected of being used to attack or obstruct police work and could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison, according to the ‘South China Morning Post’.
