Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksi Reznikov has responded to speculation about a possible dismissal or resignation by assuring that «no one is in office forever» and that, in any case, the last word is always left to the president, Volodimir Zelenski.
Zelenski has dismissed more than a dozen governors, deputy ministers and even a deputy advisor due to the alleged purchase of military rations at inflated prices by the Ministry of Defense. Now, military and government sources have informed Ukrainska Pravda and the Kyiv Independent that Zelenski will soon announce the replacement of Reznikov by the head of Ukraine’s Military Intelligence agency Kirilo Budanov.
Reznikov, who already in a first reaction said he was not aware of this possible change, has reminded at a subsequent press conference that the Constitution grants Zelenski the powers over appointments. «I will do what the head of state suggests,» he claimed, according to Ukrinform.
The minister, who has promised that he will continue to work for victory against Russian forces, fears that there will be a new major offensive later this month, coinciding with the first anniversary of the invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
