Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has withdrawn the citizenship of several senior officials from the era of President Viktor Yanukovych (2010-2014).
«Today I have signed the relevant documents to take one more step to protect and cleanse our state from those who are on the side of the aggressor,» Zelenski explained in his daily evening address. «Information about people who have been found to have Russian citizenship has been forwarded from the Security Service,» he added.
The list includes former Education and Science Minister Dimitro Tabachnik, former Internal Affairs Minister Vitaly Zakharchenko, former head of the Presidential Office Andrii Kliueva, former head of the Security Service Oleksander Yakimenko, and former Finance Minister Oleksandra Klimenko.
Zelenski has indicated that further sanction measures will be taken on Sunday and stressed that he is working to coordinate these sanctions with other jurisdictions.
On January 10, the citizenship of four deputies – Viktor Medvedchuk, Taras Kozak, Andrii Derkach and Renat Kuzmin – was already revoked.
