Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on Monday accused the international community of financing opposition groups to carry out a «coup d’état» in the country.
Lukashenko accused members of the opposition abroad of «having a clear determination to provoke the Belarusian state with acts that could be considered terrorist attacks,» BelTA news agency reported.
The president also said that he has signed a decree to create a commission to work for the return to the country of those who have committed crimes but wish to «return to their homeland».
In this regard, he confirmed that he has received a report in this regard from the Prosecutor General, Andrei Shved, and stressed that this is one of the «most important issues» for him. «Today I have signed a decree that has been prepared by a group of specialists taking into account the requests of citizens who are abroad and have committed crimes,» he said.
Lukashenko clarified that the Prosecutor’s Office has the «necessary power to involve the entire state apparatus to solve the problem with these fugitives» and asked to be kept informed, before suggesting that for some «there could be a presidential pardon».
