The authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) have accused the Ukrainian Armed Forces of using chemical weapons in the vicinity of Bakhmut and Vuglodar, the scenes of the main clashes in eastern Ukraine in recent weeks.
According to the governor of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, the pro-Russian authorities controlling this region – annexed by Russia at the end of September – have information «on the use of chemical compounds» by the Ukrainian side which cause «uneasiness» in the Donetsk military.
«In fact, this information has been reaching me for a long time. Probably for at least three weeks,» Pushilin told the microphones of Rosiyya-24 television, as reported by the Russian agency TASS.
These declarations of Pushilin come just a day after Yan Gagin, one of his main advisors, denounced to the above mentioned agency the use of chemical weapons by the Ukrainian troops also in the vicinity of Soledar.
According to Gagin, these are not the first cases in which the Kiev authorities act with biological weapons on the battlefield and in fact, according to him, the Ukrainian troops even boast of having gas grenades of foreign manufacture and drones enabled to launch them.
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine more than eleven months ago, Russia has denounced on several occasions that some of the Western powers – mainly the United Kingdom and the United States – were helping Kiev in the development of biological weapons.
However, the United Nations has come out on several occasions to assure that it has no evidence that any biological weapons program is being developed.
