A Russian court on Monday convicted ‘in absentia’ blogger Veronika Belotserkovskaya after she was found guilty of spreading false information about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine.
A judge at the Basmani Court in Moscow has indicated that «a sentence against Belotserkovskaya of nine years’ imprisonment» has been issued against the gastronomic blogger in connection with the new legislation criminalizing criticism against the war on Ukrainian territory.
In addition, the court has banned her from managing online resources for a period of five years, according to information from the TASS news agency. Although Belotserkovskaya can still appeal the sentence, she could be detained.
The case against her was initiated in March last year after she made a series of posts on her Instagram social network account which, according to the authorities, «contained false information about the activities of the Russian Army.»
In May, an arrest warrant was issued against him for two cases of «deliberate dissemination of false information» and authorities seized some of his property in the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg.
