The Chinese government has insisted Tuesday on its criticism of the downing of the balloon that flew over the United States, claiming that the device «posed no threat to anyone or to the national security» of the U.S. country.
Joe Biden’s administration warned that it could be a spy balloon, while Beijing maintains that it was only for scientific purposes. U.S. ships are now trying to recover the wreckage in the Atlantic Ocean to try to make progress in the investigations.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Mao Ning, has avoided to clarify if her government will request the return of the wreckage and has limited to say that the balloon did not belong to the United States, even if it had entered its airspace for reasons of «force majeure».
Mao urged the U.S. authorities to remain «calm» and act «in a professional manner» in such incidents, which implies not to use force in any case. For Beijing, the shoot-down was an «overreaction» on the part of Washington.
