Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda on Wednesday called for increased shipments of heavy weaponry, as well as other economic and military aid, to Ukraine at a time when a new large-scale Russian offensive is «expected».
«We must help Ukrainians win this bloody war because only victory will ensure long-term security and stability in Europe,» Nauseda said at a joint press conference in Vilnius, the capital, on the occasion of the official visit of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
«Maintaining long-term military and economic aid to Ukraine is a key factor, especially in the coming months, when a large-scale Russian offensive is expected,» assured the Lithuanian president, who stressed the need to increase the shipment of heavy weaponry.
Nauseda also expressed his support for Sweden and Finland to become full NATO members because of the importance for the Baltic countries of the presence of NATO forces in their neighboring states.
The meeting also served to defend the sanctions against Russia and Belarus and the importance of advancing the process of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, reports the Baltic news portal Delfi.
