Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasili Nebenzia, said Tuesday that the conflict in Ukraine will end «when Western countries stop the proxy war against Russia.»
Nebenzia stressed that «the other side» of the conflict is not ready to move forward in peace negotiations, so he believes that these dialogues will not take place in the near future.
«When those who promote this conflict stop waging a proxy war against us with the help of poor Ukrainians who die for them, when they take a realistic stance on our concerns, which we have clearly identified from day one, then I believe that the prospect of peace will come closer,» he has assured.
The diplomat made the remarks at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart, Bassam Sabbagh, days ahead of the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine, which began on February 24 under Russian President Vladimir Putin.
