Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday thanked his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden for «his powerful words» in support of the Ukrainian people delivered during the State of the Union.
«Thank you, Biden, for the powerful words of support for Ukraine as you addressed the nation. We are grateful for the leadership of the United States in terms of assistance (provided to) Ukraine, for the solidarity of all the American people,» Zelenski has expressed, before adding that «Ukraine freely chooses its future.»
The Ukrainian president stressed that the values of Washington and Kiev «are the same»: «Our common goal is victory,» he stressed in a post on his Twitter profile.
Hours earlier, during this year’s State of the Nation address on Capitol Hill, Biden said that the invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin is a «test» for the West.
«Putin’s invasion was a test of history, a test for the United States, a test for the world (…) «That defense matters to us because it keeps the peace and prevents the door from being open (for) potential aggressors to threaten our security and prosperity,» he said.
