At least six people have lost their lives as a result of storms and landslides caused by heavy rains in the last hours in the Brazilian region of Rio de Janeiro.
Among the victims is a minor who died Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro’s Tijuca neighborhood after the house she was in collapsed when it was hit by a landslide, Agencia Brasil reported.
The girl’s mother managed to save herself, but the child was swept away by the mud and earth. Her family had moved into the house only three days earlier.
Also, an 82-year-old man has been buried after another landslide south of Rio de Janeiro, while two other people have died in the outskirts of the city after being struck by lightning.
Also, in Ribeira das Neves, 400 kilometers northwest of Rio, a 22-year-old girl has been buried to death after also being hit by a landslide. In the same city, a man was found dead after being swept away by a water current, according to the agency.
