U.S. President Joe Biden has claimed that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, «has already lost Ukraine» under the invasion and defended sending military assistance despite criticism from Republicans.
«There is no way Putin will get it. He has already lost Ukraine. He thought that if he invaded the country he would get a welcome from those who speak Russian. He also thought that NATO would collapse, and none of this has happened,» he has pointed out, according to information from ‘The Hill’ newspaper.
Thus, he stressed that «none of this is happening» and stressed that NATO is coordinating its support to Ukraine even if Putin thought it would not happen. His comments come after he defended the support given to Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion.
Biden has also faced criticism from the Republican Party, which warns that the aid sent to Ukraine is «too much» and calls for the money to go to Americans.
«If these people don’t want to help Ukraine I understand, they don’t want to do it, but what are they going to do when Russia advances across the country or enters Belarus or anywhere else?» he warned.
The U.S. has delivered some $28 billion since the start of the war on Feb. 24, 2022.
