Around ten people were killed on Wednesday in a new attack perpetrated by suspected members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) armed group, linked to the Islamic State, against a village located in the province of North Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Witnesses quoted by the Congolese news portal Actualité have indicated that the militiamen broke into the village of Konge, two kilometers northeast of Oicha, and added that several people have been reported missing, so it is not excluded that the death toll will increase in the coming hours.
Thus, the head of civil society in Oicha, Kinos Katuho, detailed that the militiamen attacked a group of farmers who were cultivating their fields, where they executed them with shots and machetes. Seven women were among the victims.
The ADF, which swore allegiance to the jihadist group Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA), have carried out several attacks in eastern DRC in recent weeks, leaving dozens dead.
The ADF, a Ugandan group created in the 1990s, has been accused of killing hundreds of civilians in this part of the country. The group underwent a split in 2019 after Musa Baluku — sanctioned by the United Nations and the United States — swore allegiance to the jihadist group, under whose banner it has been acting ever since.
