The South Korean government announced Friday sanctions against four individuals and seven North Korean institutions engaged in «financing» Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic programs through «illegal cyber activities.»
The South Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website that these are «targeted measures to address illegal cyber activities, which are one of the main sources of funding for North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic development.»
Those sanctioned are four North Korean technicians and seven organizations under the North Korean Intelligence services that would be behind acts aimed at the theft of crypto-assets through computer attacks, without further details for the moment.
The announcement comes a week after the Armed Forces of the United States and South Korea deployed fighter jets in a series of maneuvers aimed at improving the «defense capabilities» of the two countries, after North Korea warned that it could take «forceful measures» against any military action carried out by the United States under the principle of «an eye for an eye», even in the case of using nuclear weapons.
