The U.S. Army has announced the test launch of an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile as part of a «routine procedure» that is «not the result of today’s international events.»
The missile, a Minuteman III, was fired at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at around 23.00 hours on Thursday (around 07.00 hours this Friday in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands).
The projectile and its re-entry vehicle traveled 6,800 kilometers over the Pacific Ocean to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, according to the US Air Force statement reported by ABC News.
The test has taken place after the incident with the alleged Chinese spy balloon shot down last weekend by the U.S. Army, an event that the military has disassociated from the test.
«Tests like this have occurred 300 times before and this test is not the result of current international events,» the U.S. military said.
