The Ukrainian Armed Forces have claimed that two Russian cruise missiles have entered the airspace of NATO member Romania on Friday, information that the Romanian authorities have not confirmed at first.
The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeri Zaluzhni, explained in Telegram that two Kalibr missiles crossed the territory of Moldova and then Romania before entering Ukraine. According to him, the missiles were allegedly fired from the Black Sea.
A spokesman for the Romanian Ministry of Defense, Constantin Spinu, warned in a first reaction that they have no official confirmation of this incident, which in the case of Romania would have a special importance because it is a country integrated in the Atlantic Alliance, according to local media.
However, the Ministry of Defense of Moldova has confirmed in a communiqué the irruption of at least one missile in the Moldovan airspace, in hours that coincide with the data initially provided by Zaluzhni. The government has condemned what it considers a violation of its sovereignty and stressed that it is closely monitoring the situation.
The Moldovan Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador in Chisinau to personally convey its displeasure and to demand once again that Moscow put an end to the military offensive launched over Ukraine, which has already led on other occasions to shells falling on Moldovan soil or to power cuts.
