
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has approved the imposition of economic sanctions for 50 years on 200 more individuals for their involvement in the Russian invasion of the country. Two advisors to Russian President Vladimir Putin appear on the list.
Specifically, it provides for the seizure of assets, veto of commercial operations, suspension of the traffic of goods, flights and other means of transport through Ukrainian territory, veto of the withdrawal of capital out of the country and suspension of economic and financial obligations.
The listing at the proposal of the National Security and Defense Council provides for «application of restrictive measures and other personal economic sanctions» in accordance with document 75/2023, Ukrinform Ukrainian news agency reports.
Among the names included are those of Yuri Ushakov and Larisa Bricheva, advisors to President Putin, and several managers and officials of the Russian state nuclear agency, Rosatom. There are also politicians, political analysts, managers of state-owned companies and civil servants.
Among them are the deputy head of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers, Igor Borovkov; the deputy head of the Federal Service for Environment, Technology and Nuclear Management Suprevision, Rostekhnadzor, Alexei Ferapontov; and the director of the Northern Sea Route, Vyacheslav Ruksha. There are also several Ukrainian citizens, including the deputy general director of the Zaporiyia Nuclear Power Plant, Yuri Chernichuk.
The Ukrainian presidential decree mentions the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksi Danilov, as responsible for overseeing the implementation of these sanctions.
It also calls upon the Cabinet of Ministers, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Bank to ensure the implementation and monitoring of these sanctions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the competent authorities of the EU, the United States and other countries of these sanctions, as well as to request the implementation of analogous measures in their respective jurisdictions.
On January 24, Ukraine already imposed sanctions on other Russian personalities, including Ukrainian politician and billionaire Vadim Novinsky and Metropolitan Pavel of the Russian Orthodox Church.
