The French Foreign Ministry on Monday asked its citizens to leave Belarus «without delay» for security reasons related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
«In the context of the armed offensive launched by Russia against Ukraine and the closure of Belarusian airspace, any travel to Belarus is formally discouraged,» begins the Foreign Ministry statement, which «invites» French citizens to leave that country «without delay» and «by road.»
«French nationals in Belarus are invited to leave the country without delay by road, through the control crossings with the Lithuanian, Polish or Latvian borders. If necessary, passengers arriving by air should apply for an exit visa to the services of the Belarusian Ministry of the Interior,» reads the Foreign Affairs alert.
«The borders with Lithuania and Latvia remain open. The only crossing point accessible for travelers heading to Poland is the Brest-Terespol crossing point,» reports a text in which France «strongly recommends» to its own not to participate «in any meeting of a political nature» in Belarus.
«Taking photographs and videos of official or police buildings is strictly discouraged. Body searches and cell phone searches are now widespread. The risks of participating in anti-regime actions can reach up to several years in prison,» he warned.
