Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the first of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s sons, has assured that his father «will be back» for the 2026 elections, thus refuting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who over the weekend ruled out that his rival could run again.
Flávio shared on his Twitter profile an excerpt from the interview Lula gave to CNN during his visit to Washington to meet with US counterpart Joe Biden, in which he stated that Bolsonaro «has no chance of becoming president again», and wrote that the «‘petista’ when he is not stealing, he is lying».
«The Brazilian is attentive and Luiz Inácio’s lies will not remain hidden for long. 2026 is there and Johnny Bravo? will be back!», he wrote, in reference to one of the aliases Jair Bolsonaro has ever used.
In those statements, Lula also pointed out that it will be up to the new government to «build the right narrative» of what Bolsonaro represented for Brazil. A statement that has been used by Bolsonarism to attribute to the president an attempt to associate «lies» to the former president.
«Dirty narratives and lies have always been the flagship of any leftist! He will never work for and by the people, always his comrades come first!» he wrote.
This weekend, Bolsonaro advanced in an event held in Miami that he will return to Brazil in the «coming weeks,» more than a month after leaving the country in order not to coincide with Lula’s inauguration.
