Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and in charge of the Digital Transformation portfolio, Mikhail Fedorov, reported on Monday that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already contracted 1,765 unmanned aerial vehicles as part of the so-called ‘Army of Drones’.
«This is a technological war, it is necessary to use UAVs more effectively and save the lives of our soldiers. That is why the ‘Drone Army’ project was created,» Fedorov said, Ukrinform news agency reported.
As confirmed by Fedorov, the ‘Army of Drones’ has already received up to 3.4 billion grivnas – more than 85.5 million euros – while more than 3,500 servicemen have already been trained to operate UAVs.
Despite these figures, the Ukrainian representative stressed that the Armed Forces still require more supplies of this kind, pointing directly to drones with vision ranges of up to 50 kilometers to observe Russian movements from a greater distance.
The ‘Army of drones’ is an initiative promoted by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and is aimed at acquiring dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles, a type of weaponry that has become key in the war against Russia.
