Moldova on Tuesday reopened its airspace more than three hours after it announced the temporary suspension of traffic, claiming that the decision was motivated by safety circumstances affecting civil aviation.
The reopening of air traffic was initially scheduled for 4 p.m. local time, but the restriction was finally lifted shortly before 3 p.m. local time, according to the Unimedia news portal.
The closure had been confirmed by the Air Moldova airline, which had asked the affected passengers to «remain calm» and follow the instructions of the airport staff.
The decision to close air traffic came just a day after Moldovan President Maia Sandu confirmed the existence of an alleged Moscow-orchestrated plan to overturn the constitutional order, accusations that the Kremlin has denied. They are nothing more than «old tricks of the United States and other Western countries» to «justify their own illegal actions,» she said.
