The Russian authorities on Tuesday dismissed as «unfounded» the accusations made by Moldovan President Maia Sandu about an alleged plan to destabilize the country in the midst of the invasion of Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that such accusations «do not hold water» and are part of the «old tricks of the United States and other Western countries». «They say that these accusations are related to intelligence information that cannot be verified, but then they use it to justify their own illegal actions,» she said.
Thus, he has stressed that Ukraine’s real goal is to «spread disinformation about an alleged Russian plan to destabilize Moldova» in order to bring about a «confrontation» between the two countries, TASS news agency has reported.
Zakharova confirmed that this is a «myth of the Russian threat aimed at diverting the attention of Moldovan citizens from the country’s internal problems due to the current socio-economic situation.» «These plans are already being implemented and are developed in purely Russophobic narratives,» she clarified.
In this sense, he has defended that Sandu’s words have not been well received and have met with the «distrust» of Russians. Therefore, he asked the Moldovan government to avoid «succumbing to the provocations coming from outside and to guide its actions based on the interests of its own country, taking into account the great advantage of good relations with Russia».
On the other hand, he stressed that Russia, which «rejects insinuations of interference in other countries’ affairs» and unlike other countries, «does not pose a threat to Moldova’s security and advocates the development of bilateral and mutually beneficial cooperation».
