Somali authorities on Tuesday announced the arrest of a senior Al Shabaab official who was in charge of explosives in the terrorist group, as part of stepped-up security operations over the past few months.
According to information gathered by the Somali state news agency SONNA, the detainee is Salman Dadir, who was arrested in the Mudug region while he was transporting explosives to carry out attacks.
Somalia has increased in recent months the offensives against Al Shabaab with the support of clans and local militias as part of a series of decisions taken by the president, Hassan Shaykh Mohamud, who promised to put the fight against terrorism at the center of his efforts to stabilize the African country.
