The Taliban have claimed that their security forces have carried out an operation against a «major hideout» of the Islamic State jihadist group in the capital, Kabul, an operation has resulted in «several» deaths.
Taliban spokesman and Afghan Deputy Information Minister Zabihullah Mujahid said in a message on his Twitter account that the operation was carried out in Karta, located in District 8 of the capital. «Several of them have been killed,» he said, without providing a figure.
«Because the area is densely populated, the operation is being carried out with caution,» he said, before stressing that it is «an important group» of Islamic State members involved in several attacks in Kabul, also against «foreign citizens».
Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), which considers the Taliban as traitors to the orthodoxy of the ‘sharia’ or Islamic law and defends a much harsher interpretation, has been the target of a security campaign by the Taliban in view of their attacks.
