The UK Government confirmed Tuesday that a minute’s silence will be observed on February 24 at 11 a.m. (local time) to commemorate the first anniversary of the «barbaric invasion» by Russia against its neighboring country, Ukraine.
«This nationwide minute’s silence will offer the British public the opportunity to pay tribute to the bravery of the Ukrainian people and demonstrate Britain’s unwavering solidarity with the country,» the Executive remarked in a statement.
Thus, the British Government has urged the entire population to join the initiative, which will be led by the Prime Minister himself, Rishi Sunak, from outside 10 Downing Street.
The Prime Minister has stressed how «unjustifiable» was the Russian attack that led to «war and destruction» on the European continent, and which has forced «millions of people to leave their homes». According to London, more than 114,000 Ukrainians have found refuge in British territory.
«I am incredibly proud of the UK’s response and, since last year, the UK public has demonstrated its true generosity of spirit and enduring belief in freedom,» Sunak remarked.
