The President of China, Xi Jinping, and his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, have defended on Tuesday the importance of respect for the «territorial integrity» of countries and rejected external interference in internal affairs during a meeting in Beijing, the capital of the Asian giant, where the Iranian leader has traveled in the framework of a two-day official visit.
Both stressed the importance of the development of relations between the two countries, which they described as «effective» and «comprehensive». «China firmly believes in their progress,» Xi said, according to Xinhua news agency.
The Chinese president took the opportunity to criticize the unilateralism and «tyrannical behavior» of Western countries in the international arena and said that «unfortunately, these countries insist on approaching issues with a Cold War mentality». «This damages international norms and global peace and security,» he said.
Thus, he defended Iran’s territorial integrity and advocated for greater stability in the region and highlighted Iran’s fight against terrorism.
Raisi, for his part, stressed the need to expand relations between the countries in various aspects, considering it necessary to «achieve stability and peace», according to the Tasnim news agency.
The president has asserted that, despite the «opposition of the enemies of Iran and China against the consolidation of relations, these have gone ahead». «We are friends in difficult times, and friendship in difficult times makes relations stronger,» he said.
He has also applauded Xi’s words on Iran’s territorial integrity and appreciated his «constructive» role in relation to the sanctions removal talks. «The West has been wrong again about Iran,» he has asserted.
