The High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, reiterated Wednesday after a meeting with the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Brussels that its EU accession status is an «important milestone» for the «European future of the country».
«(Borrell) urged the Presidency to move forward with reforms and ensure the functionality of the country and its institutions, for the benefit of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,» Borrell said in a statement after the meeting in Brussels, which was attended by Serbia’s Zeljka Cvijanovic, Croatia’s Zeljko Komsic and Bosnia’s Denis Becirovic.
Borrell also rejected «irresponsible rhetoric and actions aimed at undermining the unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina», for which «such behavior has no place in the European Union».
«The EU counts on Bosnia and Herzegovina to continue to support the EU in foreign policy positions and decisions, in line with the country’s strategic choice to integrate into the EU,» he has indicated, adding, on the other hand, that the European bloc will continue to support the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In this regard, he gave the example of the Energy Support Package of 70 million euros to help vulnerable households in the country. Finally, they have also agreed to stay in touch «to advance Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU path».
