The Chilean government confirmed on Tuesday the death of a forestry worker who was helping in the operations to extinguish the fires that are raging in southern Chile, bringing to 25 the total number of deaths since they started.

The Chilean Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, has informed that during the day on Monday the forestry worker lost his life after a tree fell on him, according to ‘Bio Bio Chile’.

«Félix Pérez Pereira was a worker of a private forestry company, who died in an accident yesterday as a result of a tree that collapsed while he was building firebreaks,» Tohá added in statements to the press.

With the death of the worker, the number of people who have died as a result of the fires registered in different parts of the country, distributed in the regions of Ñuble, Biobío and La Araucanía, has increased to 25.

Chilean authorities have also arrested 38 people, including five minors and 33 adults, for their alleged involvement in the forest fires, which have already burned more than 425,000 hectares.
