Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksi Reznikov acknowledged that «time is needed» to train the military in the use of Western weapons and that, after completing the training, they will then be ready to launch a major offensive against Russia.
In declarations to the Ukrinform news agency, Reznikov stressed that the armament promised by the West «cannot enter Ukraine just like that», and that the Ukrainian troops «must be prepared» to use both tanks and artillery systems.
Therefore, the possibility of Kiev preparing a major counteroffensive depends largely on the time it takes for these Western tanks and weaponry to arrive, as well as on the training capacity of its own troops in their use.
«It takes time. We are talking about a few months in which we will be completely ready. And then certain events will take place in accordance with the decision of the (Army) General Staff,» Minister Reznikov stressed.
Ukraine is awaiting the arrival on its national territory of dozens of Western battle tanks, especially the German Leopard model, promised by most of the European powers after weeks of tension between Berlin and Kiev due to the refusal of the Germans to give the ‘green light’ to such supply.
