Russian authorities said Monday that they believe there are signs of »politicization» in the Oscar prize awarded to the documentary ‘Navalni’, about the influential Russian opposition figure of the same name.
The Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, has indicated that, although he has not seen it and »cannot judge the qualities of the documentary», he considers that surely »there are elements of politicization in the film, awarded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States and directed by the Canadian Daniel Roher, according to information from the TASS news agency.
»It would be pointless to judge the qualities of the documentary, as I haven’t seen it, but I would venture to guess that there is an element of politicization here. Even in Hollywood they don’t shy away from politicization in their work sometimes,» Peskov said after learning that the documentary, which deals with the poisoning of Navalny, won the statuette tonight.
Alongside Roher were the wife and children of Navalni, who is imprisoned in Russia. Thus, Yulia Navalnaya, who has collected the award, has expressed that »she dreams of the day when Russia will be free». »My husband is in prison only for speaking the truth, for defending democracy,» she asserted before underlining her wish for his release soon. »Be strong,» she said.
