President Joe Biden on Wednesday approved New York State’s disaster declaration to provide relief in the aftermath of winter storms that occurred in late December 2022.

»Today, President Joe Biden declared that a major disaster exists in New York State and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by a severe winter storm and snowstorm from December 23-28, 2022,» a White House statement reads.

The president has made federal funds available to Erie and Genesee, Niagara, St. Lawrence and Suffol counties to enable eligible state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations to cover repair work on storm- and snow-damaged facilities.

In addition, Biden has added that federal funds are also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures throughout New York State.
