Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Vasili Nebenzia, has assured that Russia will return the Ukrainian children »when conditions are safe,» adding that the issue has been »totally exaggerated» by the international community.

»We simply wanted to spare them from the danger that military activities could cause, that’s all,» he has stated at a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York. »The issue of children forcibly brought to Russia has been totally exaggerated,» he added.

He has also assured that the International Criminal Court (ICC); the body that last week issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin for the deportation of minors, is »completely null and void for us».

In fact, the Russian Investigative Committee has opened this Monday a criminal case against the judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the chief prosecutor of this court by considering that Tomoko Akane, Rosario Salvatore Aitala and Sergio Gerardo Ugalde Godinez may have incurred in a crime contemplated in the Russian Criminal Code by questioning the protection theoretically enjoyed by a head of state like Putin, according to a statement of the Investigative Committee collected by the Interfax agency.

The former Russian president and current deputy chairman of the country’s Security Council, Dimitri Medvedev, also spoke out to assure that he considers that the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant against the Russian president will have »monstrous consequences».
