British Defense Minister Ben Wallace warned Thursday that the Ukrainian Army needs »extensive training» to be able to make use of the Challenger 2 battle tanks sent by the UK authorities in the framework of the Russian invasion.
In this sense, he pointed out that the military »need a lot of preparation and it will take some time to be sufficiently prepared» to use these tanks in combat against the Russian army, as reported by Sky News television channel.
He also pointed out that the senior officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have to »put these tanks into practice and carry out operations and military exercises to be able to use them following the Western model» and recalled that London has delivered 14 tanks of this type.
On the other hand, he indicated that the British government estimates that more than 220,000 Russian military and mercenaries have been killed or wounded since the beginning of the invasion more than a year ago. However, he acknowledged that the clashes have left a large number of victims among the Ukrainian ranks.
